Brandy Vanderheiden, MA, MFT, SEP

Psychotherapy and

Somatic Experiencing

Brandy completed her MA in Counseling Psychology from JFK University (www.jfku.edu) in March 2007, and completed requirements to become a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in February 2011. 

Starting July 2008, Brandy began studying Somatic Experiencing, and completed the training in September 2010. She took an additional post-advanced Somatic Experiencing training with Peter Levine called "Eye of the Needle", that focuses on people who have had near death experiences and surgical/anesthesia events (completed Feb 2011).

Brandy is a licensed psychotherapist (MFT49771) with a Master's degree in Counseling Psychology and an emphasis in Holistic Studies.

Her specialization is trauma and accumulated stress. She uses the method Somatic Experiencing in conjunction with psychotheraputic work. She believes all the modalities she learned in the past have helped her refine her skills in working with the subtleties of Somatic Experiencing, including teaching Anusara inspired and vinyasa yoga for 10 years, training as a second degree Reiki practitioner, and spending six years training in hypnosis and guided meditation.

Yoga

Brandy has been practicing yoga since 1998. She was certified to teach by the White Lotus Foundation in 2001.

Currently, Brandy teaches public yoga classes at Foothill College and for employees of tech companies at AMD and Filemaker, Inc. in the South Bay area.

The style Brandy practices is Anusara Yoga.  Anusara is a blend of biomechanics and connecting with our own divine nature through the heart. You can learn more about Anusara at www.anusara.com.
