You know about yoga's stress relieving benefits and how it can help strengthen your body and increase your balance and flexibility. But you may not know how it helps us heal past trauma, anxiety, and overwhelming stress. Every event we have ever experienced, whether we remember it or not, is imprinted in our bodies.
This workshop will give you an introduction to the body's role in processing stress, and easy things you can do every day to help settle your nervous system and make a big difference in your life. When your nervous system is more settled, you will feel calmer, have more positive interactions with people, and feel more engaged in life.

Release & Recovery for Hips & Low Back
Changing chronic pain maybe easier than you thought
With Brad Beldner and Brandy Vanderheiden
Sunday Nov 1, 2009  2-5PM
Downtown Yoga Shala in San Jose
(Note: this will be our last Yoga/Feldenkrais workshop of the year - don't miss it!)
Anusara Inspired yoga and Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement

Yogis believe that the true age of a person is measured by the health of their spine. The spine is seen as the main channel for life energy, and when it is blocked, our energy is lower and there is more risk of dis-ease in the body. If you have chronic or intermittent back pain, you probably feel older, have less energy, and it is harder to engage in life.
Using the potent combination of Anusara Therapeutics and Feldenkrais Movement, learn some of the conditions that are likely causing your pain, along with tricks to release painful flair-ups and make your back healthier. Discover how to change old paradigms about spinal function and re-organize the way you move and get at the cause of chronic discomfort. Learn how to modify yoga postures for your particular body type to gain the most benefit from your practice for a more healthy spine.

Did you know that:

-More flexible yogis have as many back problems as people with less mobility.
-Your back pain might be caused from immobility or hypermobility in other areas.
-The most common back injuries in yoga happen in forward bends.
-Sometimes when your back hurts, the best thing is a gentle backbend to ease it.
-Some problems happen because of over-effort, and gentle easy movements can ease symptoms.
- Most back pain comes from inefficient organization and use of body mechanics
- The area you feel pain in the back usually isn't the cause.
- Most people have been stuck in detrimental habitual movement patterns since the age of two.
- All changes in the body start with changes in our brain.

All levels welcome. Modifications can be made for people with serious conditions. Please email Brandy@soulmindyoga.com prior to the event so we can discuss how to best support you.

$40 before 10/25, $45 thereafter

Yoga and Feldenkrais Movement

Exploring the Art of Embodiment Through Movement

Sun June 14 10-2pm

$45 if paid by June 10, $55 after

315 College Avenue (near California), Palo Alto

The body is a vehicle through which the entire human being and one's relationship to life can be explored. Through cultivating our awareness, we are more able to participate in the evolution of consciousness.

Feldenkrais movement lessons are a unique, neurologically-based approach to eliminating ineffective habits of movement as well as unconscious contractions due to stress reactions. These compulsions are the infrastructure for our diseases and self-limiting behaviors. Our natural healing and learning capacity can be liberated through these movement lessons. Lead by Brad Beldner
Yoga postures are practiced with moment-to-moment awareness of the breath and body moving together. This class will be a dynamic practice of being "in the flow," and learning to listen deeply and reconnect both with our body and our inner environment. After the practice we will deepen our practice of awareness and presence through breathing and meditation. Lead by Brandy Vanderheiden.

Registration: email Brandy at Brandy@soulmindyoga.com or call 650-281-9315. Paypal available on registration page. Space limited to 20 people. Light snacks will be served. Please arrive 10-15 minutes early for parking and check in. Bring a yoga mat and socks (for the Feldenkrais part)
